Vannathupoochi               -    6/10

Azhagar Malai                 -  4.5/10

Kaminey - Vishal Bhardwaj pays homage to cinema of yore and that's reason enough to go out and grab tickets for one of the most keenly anticipated films of our times. Kaminey lives up to the hype associated with it. Kaminey’ definitely has an effect. When you walk out you will be wondering about the series of events that happened. It is definitely a very smart thriller. Shahid’s acting can is par excellence and Priyanka Chopra has well justified the maharashtrian mulgi. The film had an excellent opening.

Magadheera - Set against the backdrop of an eerie theme - reincarnation – Magadheera unfolds on the screen with multiple shades of entertainment. Stunts by Peter Haynes rule the roost. The film also has its visual grandeur. Ramcharan Teja did his part well with Kajal Agarwal. In short, the movie encompasses some of the best commercial elements that Telugu audience had seen in the recent past. The film had a very good opening. Rating – 8

Rithu - Director Shyamaprasad's Rithu talks about the current times and looks deep into the minds of the young generation. It talks about their dreams, pressures, anxieties and the changing mindsets, in a refreshing way. The film's casting also needs to be appreciated. The three main characters have been played quite convincingly by the three newcomers. Rithu tends to tread a different path. The film is good.

Daddy cool - Daddy Cool is meant to be a visual spectacle not to be taken with much seriousness.  Mammootty comes in well cut designer suits, trendy jackets, nice shirts and matching trousers. He fools around with his son, singing zingy songs and playing cricket, takes on the baddies in style and mimics his own trademark gestures to evoke laughter, and lots more. The film did average collections at the box office.

Pokkisham - A son’s attempt to know about the life and love of his father, that is Pokkisham. It begins with the son being asked by his mother to find some old document in the house. An attempt has been made to show the 1970s in all their originality. But, again, the artificiality steps in. Only a few elements from the era have been magnified for the period feel, the genuineness is just not there. The camera however must be appreciated for some neat work. From pokkisham nothing is there to treasure.

Vannathupoochi - It has been a very long time since a film has been certified officially as a Children's Film by the regional censor board in Chennai. Vannathupoochi, produced and directed by Azhagappan is the first film in many years to get a certificate as a children film, for that alone he should be lauded. The film focuses on today’s children and their grandparents who are lonely and neglected due to modern times. This film too had an average opening.

Eesa - The protagonist Eesa played by Vignesh has been etched out of two of the most powerful characterisation in Tamil cinema- Kamal Hassan’s Chappani of 16 Vayathinile and Vikram’s Chittan of Pitamagan. There is nothing much to say about newcomer Haran’s music. The plus points are the locations and the climax action scenes in a mangrove forest area bordering the sea, well picturised by cameraman R.B Balaganesh.

Azhagar Malai - Azhagar Malai has nothing new to offer and has a silly excuse for a plot, with some of the poorest actors you could possibly assemble, aimed at B and C centre audiences. An old-fashioned tale with stereotypes for characters, Azhagar Malai fails miserably because the drama is so predictable and most of the performances are so embarrassing. The film had only below average opening.
